Louis Armstrong Park is one of the best-known tourist attraction in New Orleans. This park was known before as Beauregard Square. It is a 32-acre entertainment center and is located in the neighbourhood of Treme, along the streets of Rampart from the French Quarter. It was designed by Architect Robin Riley of New Orleans. Robin Riley was an outstanding architect and urban designer in the United States from 1973 to 1986 and was also an architect in New Zealand. The park consists of the Municipal Auditorium, Mahalia Theatre for the Performing Arts, Congo Square, and Jazz National Historical Park of New Orleans. There are a lot of things going on inside this park and it is really a center for entertainment where everyone can discover the real beauty of nature, music, and arts. In the year 1970, the Louis Armstrong Park was the home to Jazz and Heritage Festival. This festival was known as a jazz festival where people celebrate the music and culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. Here, people celebrate, dance around, and just have fun. At the center of the park is a gravestone of Armstrong created by Elizabeth Catlett, where people take pictures of it as a souvenir of their visit to New Orleans, Louisiana. At the corner of this park lies historic Congo Square, also known before as Place de Negres. The name came from the culture of slaves who usually gathered there on Sundays. They would often dance, beat drums, sing, and auction some of their homemade goods, and just celebrate their day off.Every year Louis Armstrong Park presents a celebration day for Martin Luther King, Jr., Concerts, Red dress run, film showing, festivals, weddings and many other activities. Visiting this park would be really great especially if there is a festival going on!Photo NEW ORLEANS JAZZ NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK, ORLEANS PARISH by Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0
