I wanted so much to enjoy the Hotel but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. Although the premise - of an eerie and sinister hotel where guests meet grisly ends - was very appealing, the execution didnt resonate. I just cannot enjoy shows that are primarily or mostly single narrator - I don't want to be told what's happening, I want to experience it myself. I saw that there were several cast members listed so I thought it was a dialogue-driven show but instead it's 99% narration with the very occasional character quote. I'm a fan of short fiction so 7-10 minute episodes were enticing but honestly, nothing really happens in the time. As I perservered throughout first dozen or so episodes I realised I couldn't recall a single plot from anything I'd listened to. At that point, while listening to a character tell me over and over and over again that he was cleaning up blood (which I would rather have experienced being drawn from the victim, whose death made no sense) I decided to cut my losses. I wasn't enjoying the series, I was dragging myself through the first season as a stubborn goal I'd set myself. The Hotel has its fans and I've seen some rave reviews for it around various communities but it isn't for me.
