Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

On this week’s show…

Thursday 15th October is International White Cane Day, and Vision Australia are holding a virtual concert to celebrate the occasion and raise awareness of what a white stick actually does and the challenges that vision impaired people face every day - particularly in a COVID-affected world, where people don’t want to touch each other any more.

The festival’s phenomenal lineup includes America’s Got Talent winner Codi Lee, Australian National Treasures Rachael Leahcar and Lara Nakhle, Australian singing-songwriting “Next Big Thing” Tate Sheridan, piano-thumping rockstar and “Paragon of Positivity” Scott MacIntyre, Shayy Winn - the woman with a voice so beautiful, it made Lionel Richie cry - as well as two-time Grammy winner Diane Schuur

Ahead of the virtual festival, Matthew has been given the role of roving showbiz journalist and has been tasked with prowling the virtual red carpet, looking for gossip and exclusive interviews with the stars.

That didn’t go so well, but fortunately he’d arranged interviews with festival headliners Shayy Winn and Tate Sheridan.

He also speaks to Vision Australia’s Jordan Ashby, who explains how he came up with the idea for a White Cane Day Virtual Music Festival, and Manager-to-the-Stars Duncan Steward who helped make Jordan’s idea a reality.
