Welcome back to another episode of Sounds of Resistance: voices from the streets! This is a special episode with Dave Robertson, a union organizer with AFSCME Organizing Committee 962. AFSCME is a union that focuses on public sector workers. Dave called in to the show to talk about a workers’ victory in Mishawaka, Indiana. Mishawaka 911 Dispatchers decided that they wanted & needed to build solidarity among their ranks, form a union, and stand up for their rights in the workplace. The 911 Dispatchers voted to form a union with AFSCME by an 86% vote. Dave talks to us about what drove these workers to that point, his role in the campaign, what’s next for these workers, and what people can do if they are interested in knowing how to form a union at their workplace.
