Dr. Jen Gupta (she/her) is an Indian/British astrophysicist who completely blew my mind as she not only explained how physics ties into the Buffyverse (!!) but also as she chatted with me about how we see different sides to Cordy through our watches over the years, how the Bronze is actually not that weird of a concept for our international listeners with different drinking ages, and how really ableist our day-to-day language was in 1997 and can still be today in 2020.

Scoobies of Color

For over two decades, we have loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer - a show about one girl in all the world, a 'chosen' one. This is a space to discuss not only a very cishet white television show from the 90s, but also our own responses to the episodes and our unfiltered thoughts through the seasons, as we recap the not-so-underground shenanigans of Sunnydale, CA. While we may not see our own faces and our own stories on the screen, this community exists to celebrate and to honor our personal stories and the stories of those who shape our daily lives. As we navigate the ever evolving and always challenging landscape of thriving as people of color in the current climate of the world, I am thrilled to be able to share this corner of the Internet with you. I am so humbled to be your host, to have the rare privilege of bringing my favorite television episodes to your attention. Each week, I will be speaking to a stranger of color from the internet, someone I have never met in real life and have little-to-no conversational history with. We will be chatting about an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer... and whatever else may come up during yet another re-watch of our favorite, not perfect, show.
