If you're reading this it's already too late. What was your favorite podcast before you started reading this? You can't remember, can you? Things like this tend to happen in Firmament, but don't worry, The Daylight Society is here to help welcome you to Monster Hour, your new favorite podcast. Quinn is an outstanding Keeper. His world is rich with beauty and terror. His mellifluous voice makes mayhem sound soothing, and the web he weaves is entrancing. The characters in his world are unique, and each of them is fully realized. Chief among them is Stoney Lock, the formidable former Ranger Specialist and current enigmatic face of the law in Firmament who definitely knows more than he lets on. Because of characters like Stoney, and the way that Quinn portrays them, the world feels alive. But Quinn would just be a crazy man talking to himself without his outstanding players and the characters they've created and embody at his (at least currently) digital table.Alvin, the kind-hearted bicycle enthusiast and brave lycanthrope next door is undoubtedly the heart of the group. Yes, his brain may be a bit smoother than most, but that simply adds to how endearing and sweet this very good boy is. Whose a good boy? Alvin's a good boy! Yes he is. As the group's front liner, Alvin proudly puts himself in harm's way in order to protect the ones he loves. Kyle, the man behind the fur, brings a jovial ferocity to Alvin that I can't imagine anyone else could muster.Constance has lived in Firmament her entire life, but that isn't necessarily the only life she's lived. She spends her days painting, not living up to her mother's expectations, and receiving psychic visions and knowledge from her late-grandmother. These visions aid Constance and her friends with investigating and eradicating the evils that call Firmament home. She's brilliant, a little bonkers, and has seemingly read every single book in existence. Her player, Teo, is just as enthusiastic and delightful as Constance. Oh, and good luck trying to figure out if she rolled well or not, because regardless of if its a 1 or a 14 Teo hilariously reacts the same way every time.A smart, smarmy, sharply-dressed smartass, JR is a sneak thief with a love of art and the key to your heart... and everything else. Her relationship with the law varies wildly depending on who is wearing the badge, and she couldn't shoot the ocean even if she was fully submerged, but if you need to traverse the multiverse or talk your way out of trouble that she probably caused in the first place, she's the one you're looking for. Her player Hannah is equally as quick-witted and sarcastic as JR herself, and has a laugh so infectious that you'll need a vaccine to stop giggling. These people have come together and created something very special. Yes, all of the above things make this podcast special in their own right, but what really makes this show thrum with life is the friendships at the core of it. You can tell that these people love and appreciate one another, and that love and appreciation is something that this podcast exudes.I know you have questions, but herein lie answers. So come join me in The Daylight Society. We have snacks. BYOBB*.*Bring Your Own Bath Bombs
Gosh, I've been enjoying this story and I'm sad I'm finally catching up. Quinn is a great keeper and the interactions between the cast are fantastic. Each player is a joy to listen to and brings life to Firmament Colorado. Alvin is adorable, JR is hilarious, and Constance is very relatable. The show is very inclusive and its very obvious everyone is very comfortable with each other. I've recommended this podcast to all my friends.
Monster Hour is truly incredible! Alvin, Constance, and JR are dimensional and relatable characters. The production quality is fantastic. The stories are both fun and capitvating. Monster Hour is a great example of balancing actual play with audio drama. After fully catching up, I've already gone back to re-listen. If you like MotW, you'll love Monster Hour. If you like great characters, you'll love Monster Hour. If you love dynamic storytelling, you'll love Monster Hour.
This is definitely one of the best Monster of the Week shows out there, and honestly, one of my favorite RPG podcasts in general. The cast is really engaging, and the GM is the perfect amount of sadistic and supportive. Check this one out. You won't regret it.
This is such a fun podcast. The characters are relatable and engaging, the players have great chemistry, and the show is well put together. The sound quality is great, as is the story telling. If you enjoy actual play podcasts, this will be for you!
This is my favorite actual-play podcast, yes, even eclipsing The Adventure Zone. Right from the start, it's just a blast to listen to. The cast is having fun while still spinning an amazing tale, and there's never a dull moment. The story starts out simple, with the classic "small town where weird things happen" trope, which is great by itself, and as we find out more about the world and characters it just gets better. Monster Hour is a fantastic, hilarious podcast and well worth listening to.
I was hooked from the first episode. The storytelling is excellent, the stakes feel real, and the characters are lived-in and living. It's fun and funny, with mysteries and magic aplenty. If you want to be a fly on the wall of a funny group having a great time with Monster of the Week, then add Monster Hour to your list.
I stumbled across this podcast while looking for inspiration for my own MOTW game and accidentally found one of my favorite actual play podcasts. Engaging characters, wonderful story, and plot twists and turns at every corner.
I had this podcast recommended to me a few months ago during my first 2 months of University. I had just moved down to the city and was learning my way around campus. I started listening to Monster Hour while walking around campus and between classes and I tore through it so quickly. I've listened to a lot of ttrpg podcasts and this one really struck me; it's genuine and doesn't take itself too seriously but still packs a huge emotional punch. Thank you so much to the crew behind Monster Hour for giving us this great story, dynamic characters, and amazing tone.
Absolutely hilarious! The dyanimc between the players and keeper is perfect, the stories and gameplay makes me want to play the game myself.
Do you love were-coyotes, ghostly visions, skeleton keys, and small-town hijinks? Do you also love impactful, emotional story-telling and world-ending stakes? Do you also also love great production value and memorable melodies? Look no further than this incredible Monster of the Week actual play podcast. Monster Hour has an incredible cast of irl friends (and it shows, because they have such great chemistry together) led by the unparalleled Keeper Quinn and a story that will stick with you long after the final note of their theme song plays. With this campaign ending very soon, all I can say is that I eagerly await what comes next from these folks!
So glad I stumbled on this podcast! Very good storytelling with just the right amount of campy humor
Fantastic players with fabulous characters and an absolutely killer Keeper! Every episode gets better than the last, with so many engaging and difficult player choices AND sudden plot twists, I can honestly say I've deeply enjoyed this pod every step of the way.
Fantastic actual play podcast. Great story telling, great players, and wonderful characters. This story perfectly captures the darker element of monster of the week. The stakes are high and the drama is intense. I highly suggest this podcast, even if you have no experience with monster of the week, they do a great job of explaining everything and it is very easy to follow. This is one of the best podcasts I have found for collaborative story telling.
I started listening a few weeks ago to make my work day more interesting, and god I'm glad I did! From the charming Chief Stoney, to the incessant pursuits of Leon, to Constance's overbearing mother, Quinn crafts an amazing, engaging narrative for his three players! The hunters are all complex and fun, and I need to know more about them now. I want to give Constance a hug, Alvin a cool fist bump, and go for a drink with JR at the Prospector.10/10 would recommend! Just wouldn't recommend moving to Firmament with all the spooky happenings there...
One of, if not, the best Monster of the Week podcast out there. The GM and players have great chemistry and bounce off each other's ideas and improv in amazing ways and have been amazing in giving ideas for my home games!
This podcast has such a great dynamic with the GM and the players. Blending comedy and horror, the group quickly establishes a compelling narrative with the GM effectively explaining the rules of the RPG system as they go (very helpful to me, since I'm very unfamiliar with them).
Monster Hour is an incredibly fun and imaginative actual play podcast that's perfect for those looking for something different than D&D! I've been listening to Monster Hour for at least the last year, and can't begin to express how much I've grown to love Constance, Alvin, JR, and all the other people of Firmament as they deal with all kinds of supernatural threats and mysteries. The cast knows exactly how to play the system for every one of its strengths, and have been a huge influence in how I approach the game. Thanks for all the hours of fun and adventure, and stay spooky!
This podcast made me a huge fan of Monster of the Week and even got some of my friends into it. Fun, compelling, and just an all-around good time
I only tried table top games once, and the DM was kind of an asshat. I love the characters, but I also really appreciate Quinn’s “as a fan of your characters” guidance. Not only have I blown through 50 episodes in about 9 days, but it has really rekindled my interest in trying to play again “IRL”. My youngest sister sent me a link to this to occupy my brain enough so I don’t get sidetracked while watching dishes, but it has become a truly enjoyable addition to my day. Definitely recommend, though I kind of wonder if the players have heard of “Supernatural”, because of the lack of Sigil “Traps”. Maybe that’s a playbook thing.
