Founded in 2015 by lead singer Sam Walukouw, reggae sensation Java Jukebox has been making waves in the Boston music scene with their “Take Me To The Roots” residency at the Middle East Club and opening up for big acts like Mighty Mystic. With one EP already out, the band is anticipating the release of their first full length album in 2019.
In our conversation piece we sit down and hear from bandleader Sam Walukouw about growing up in Indonesia and the culture shock of moving to Canton, New York in his teenage high school years while barely being able to speak English.
We also talk about his introduction to reggae music and his eventual move to Boston where he immersed himself in the music community and began developing his sound and skills as a songwriter and bandleader.
