You might be asking yourself one, two or all of these questions… Why am I not losing weight? What’s hindering me? Why do I get sluggish and have an “afternoon slump” everyday? Why am I out of energy all of the time?

The first thing Dr. Drew asks his listeners to do is to ask themselves this question…

“What will be different when your metabolism is hitting on all cylinders? … Envision this!!”

He asks everyone to keep that question in mind as he goes into what the 5 Most Damaging Mistakes we are making when it comes to our Metabolism are.

The 5 Big Mistakes…The Negatives of what we are doing!

  1. Burning What??? – What does that even mean? Burning calories! The thought is that if we are exercising more or harder that we are revving up our metabolism so we can burn more calories. Well, partly true. However, the meaning behind that is what is called thermic efficiency… simply put: how fast our body is burning calories. That’s it. In reality, Metabolism means: the sum total of all chemical reactions in your body hitting on all cylinders. All the cells in your body are working, not just part of them!
  2. Protein Shake and Fat Burners! – First and foremost, STOP USING FAT BURNERS!!! If you are using fat burners, stop them now! You are actually putting chemicals into your body that are harming your body… not doing any good.  Additionally, Dr. Drew is all about REAL FOOD! Therefore, protein shakes are not recommended… Real Food gives you enough protein. Again, it’s a processed food and has added chemicals.
  3. Exercising with Disdain!  – Insert frowny face! Who wants to do something they hate? If we hate what we are doing for our movement and exercise, it actually causes stress which then fires up cortisol – the stress hormone– which then causes weight gain! … insert another frowny face! Enjoy what you do! Enjoy your movement and exercise.
  4. Overwhelm & Cortisol – Our brains go into overload when we are overwhelmed and stressed, causing the cortisol hormone levels to rise. Being chronically overwhelmed makes it really hard to sustain health goals and causes unwanted weight gain.
  5. Yo-Yo Dieting and Dehydration – Any diets and calorie restrictions usually fail, actually a 90% failure rate! These types of diets and restrictions don’t look at the Whole You. We need to get passed the “dieting mindset,” instead looking at our entire well-being and all the that we can eat and enjoy!  Along with looking at our entire selves, staying hydrated is a vital part of the whole puzzle. Most people are dehydrated and they don’t even know it! Our cells suffer massively when we are dehydrated, therefore putting us into an almost complete halt in our health goals. Drink your water, friends!
