RATING
Gaslight is a (surprisingly) powerful mini-series about control and manipulation. Chloe Grace Moretz plays Danny, a young woman who vanished suddenly, leaving behind her friends and family. Years later she turns up at the home of her once best friend Becca, now married and busy living her life. Becca is forced to balance her fears, concerns, judgements and relief as the story of Danny's absence unravels.I didn't expect much from Gaslight but listened as a courtesy to QCode, who had earned my trust with the likes of Blackout and Carrier previously. I was pleasantly surprised by how hooked I was from the off. The script is well-written and ideally paced and the voice acting conveys the delicate subject matter and it's complex associated emotions very well.Gaslight is clearly meant to be a one-off tale and it achieves its goal of exploring a dark and sensitive topic in a swift yet thorough manner.
Even though this podcast had an incredibly vague plot, it had great potential that I don't think they portrayed to their fullest. The writing was alright, I liked the dialogue, the tape with Danny's father was a highlight. Chloe Grace Moretz, being the star of the show, was very mediocre. To be honest, the portrayal that stood out to me was honestly John Gallagher Jr. as Ben. I didn't like the ending. From what I've heard, a lot of QCODE shows have very open-endings, and this is for sure one of them. But what more can you ask for with a podcast this short.
Good acting and production. I enjoy how the backstory is intercut with current events. I'm worried that this is leading up to a predictable twist but the show is pretty good so far
Quality podcast - simply didn't enjoy the story as others may do.
Girl join a cult. By the end of the series, she's still in the cult. I get that most of Qcode shows tend to be left open ended but this show in particular would have benefited from a more proper ending.
was a bit slower but I really enjoyed the story!
Never like with Gaslight have I been angry for the sudden end. Oh please! Can you please continue?
TW: Sexual AssaultLoving this so far, definitely well produced. Very enthralling! There are a few episodes, mostly sessions between Danny and Ben that visually alude to sexual assault.
Gaslight was superbly acted and has great production value over all, but despite already being a limited series, it doesn't cover a lot of ground story wise. A few conversations seems to repeat each other over and over, what was promoted as a "twist" didn't amount to much, and the ending was sudden and unsatisfying. I understand that that was probably the point - you don't "fix" situations like this with good intentions - but there's just not enough here. That and the ratio of show to ad in terms of length is the most egregious I've encountered in a podcast. Not really worth it except that Chloe was amazing.
Nicely produced little series that can be binged in a while. Episodes are so short that the whole thing could have been presented in one episode, haha. Simple and enjoyable, though cliché (but still fully recomendable).
Great short story. This podcast has a small scope, but is so wonderfully crafted that the stakes feel very high. Great acting.
Really great writing and performances, but the story feels incomplete, like there should be another season.
The subject matter is really heavy, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the quality of this work.
Knowing QCODE, my expectations for this show was high - but it doesn´t disappoint! The sound design is stellar and I detect so many layers that ads to the story. The relationship between Danny and Becca is so very well written and acted, I really feel emotional listening to it. The "intervention" is thrilling and makes me want to know more. Brilliant!
