What’s on the menu for the next month and a half??? Spring Chinook. The most highly sought after fish in the Northwest. We will be catching these prize posessions in the Cowlitz, Columbia, and the Willamette river systems.

The flows on all our rivers have been at record high levels but they are starting to drop now which will create better fishing opportunities.

Willamette River: This fishery this time of the year you really have to watch the turbidity on this river. There will be good numbers come the end of march and first of April.
I like to troll downtown in the port where there is deep water using a herring cured in Zilla Bait slime lime with a double flasher. This is a suspended fishery from 16-25ft. Keep a eye out for this great fishery.

Columbia River: flows are double in size from the 10 year average and as the waters start to drop the bite will happen. The water temps are definitely colder than normal so the down hill troll will have to be slow. Focus on the slower seams and you will catch fish.
Lewis River: High and green with little or no report. Keep in mind that the Lewis is closed for Spring chinook.

Kalama River: High and green with a few Springers being caught down low. This will be a anchor fishery with this high water so try and find the soft seems and let the fish come to you as they will be on the move.

Cowlitz River: The water is high and green with about 3 feet of visibility, there is a descent number of winter steelhead by the Blue creek hatchery as well as Springers in the lower river. Side drifting for steelhead using beads is very effective. When fishing for springers a diver and eggs/coon shrimp work very well.
Chehalis River: the flows on this system should drop in to good shape by Monday for a chance at late winter steelhead. I would side drift eggs cured in Zilla Bait Red Radzberry as this is a very good vibrant color. Remember to check your laws rules and regulations for ALL river systems.
