Have you heard about Eritrea?

Yeah, me neither… not until I met Hermon. Hermon introduced me to this very young, beautiful, yet very brutal country in Africa.

Listen to my interview with Hermon as he explains why Eritrea is called the “North Korea of Africa” and how scared he was while he managed to escape from a country that has a “shoot to kill” policy if one’s caught leaving its borders.

We discussed the horrors of this tiny land where people don’t have the freedoms of speech or choice (when it comes to military or choosing a college of your choice), female genital mutilation, and how people (including him) get imprisoned on a daily basis for anything and everything.

Despite these brutalities, this country holds a lot of beauty in itself where you can experience four seasons within j3-hourhour drive from one end to another. There are also cultural beauties where nine different cultures live together in harmony with rich history behind their buildings and towns.

After meeting and listening to him, I’m more aware and very thankful for the freedom and privilege we have here in America, and in most of the other countries as well. It also makes me very compassionate for all the refugees all over the world.

I hope it will have the same effect on you as you listen to this week’s episode as well!

And as always, I appreciate your comments, feedback and questions.

Have a wonderful week and stay grateful for the life we get to experience in the “land of the free.”
