Chartable is Shutting Down. Here’s How to Keep Getting Podcast Charts

Chartable to Close. Where Can You Get Podcast Charts?

What happened to Chartable?

On September 27, 2024 Spotify announced it will close the podcast analytics platform Chartable, as part of a re-focus at the company. The closure will happen in December 2024. Chartable burst onto the podcasting scene in 2018 as the first tool to help podcasters track chart positions across Apple and later Spotify.

Chartable went on to develop more features like SmartLinks and SmartPromos to provide richer data to the entire podcast ecosystem. And in February of 2022, Spotify acquired Chartable. Since then, the podcast giant integrated Chartable features into existing Spotify tech. And apparently that integration has thus concluded.

What does this mean for podcasters?

It’s hard to say exactly what this will mean for podcasters, or the podcast industry writ large. As Chartable grew, it became so much more than podcast charts.

Dan Misener, founder of podcast growth agency Bumper wrote an excellent piece on how no single tool can effectively replace all that Chartable offered. He offers a series of alternatives, per each of Chartable’s features. Highly recommended read, especially for those on the business-side of the podcast industry.

But what about podcast charts, Chartable’s original feature? Is there a viable replacement?

Where can podcasters get podcast charts rankings?

Earlier this year, Podchaser introduced its new podcast charts hub. You might remember reading about it in a previous edition of this very newsletter.

While the industry has largely moved away from download-based ranking metrics, charts still provide valuable information. Podcast listeners often peruse charts to find their next favorite program. And podcasters use charts to prove their mettle and get inspiration from peers.

So how can you keep getting chart data?

All Podchaser users can go to podchaser.com/charts and browse by platform (Apple and Spotify), Category, and/or country.

Podchaser Pro users can view any charting show’s 90-day historical positions.

How can podcast networks get podcast charts?

Podcast networks and publishers can still get all-time historical charts data via Podchaser’s API.

The API offers a scalable solution, whether you need historical chart data on a handful of shows or hundreds of podcast charts across your entire catalogue.

Podchaser’s API goes well beyond charts, too. You can supercharge our charts API with Podchaser Pro data to access reach, contacts, demographics, for more than 99.99% of active podcasts. Great for media monitoring, campaign building, content acquisition, and planning.

To get started, visit our Podchaser API hub.
